Hi, I’m Sam — and I’ll be your personal guide in Tokyo.

I’ve lived in Japan for 11 years, and Tokyo is home. I’m married to a Japanese woman, and we’re raising our son here, so I know the city not only as a guide, but as a family living here.

I created First Time Tokyo to make discovering Tokyo easy, relaxed and enjoyable — especially when you’re traveling with children.

I’ll plan your day around your family, adapt the pace when needed, take care of the trains and logistics, and make sure you can enjoy Tokyo without constantly worrying about what comes next.

I’ll also share the local places, cultural insights and little tips that can make your time in Tokyo much more enjoyable.

I speak French, English and Japanese.

Whenever possible, I’ll personally be your guide. If I’m unavailable, I’ll arrange one of my trusted fellow guides and confirm who will be guiding you before your tour.

    Yes. Your tour is completely private and reserved exclusively for you and your group.
  • Can we customize the itinerary?
    Absolutely. The tour is fully customizable. You can tell me what you want to see before the tour, and I can also adjust the itinerary during the day based on your interests, energy level, weather, or anything else that comes up.
  • Do you pick us up at our hotel?
    Yes. I meet you directly at your hotel in Tokyo and start the tour from there.
  • What is included in the price?
    The price includes your private guide and a fully personalized tour. Transportation, meals, and entrance fees, if applicable, are not included.
  • How do we pay?
    Payment is made in cash on the day of the tour (USD, EUR, AUD, CAD and JPY accepted). If you prefer to pay by card, simply let me know in advance and I can send you a secure PayPal payment link.
  • What if we change our plans during the tour?
    No problem. Your tour is flexible, and I can adjust the itinerary during the day to make sure the experience works for you.
